To whom it may concern...

I am a comedian and writer, most recently on tour as support for comedian Hari Kondabolu. I have worked as a comedian in public radio since 2015, when I first appeared on Season 10 of Canadian Broadcast Corporation’s (CBC) longest running and beloved comedy show The Debater’s. I quickly became a regular on the comedy debate show, where two comedians are paired head-to-head to debate “with facts and funny,” and have appeared in close to 20 episodes over the subsequent 6 seasons.

Episodes of The Debaters are taped in front of live theater audiences across Canada while recordings air twice weekly on CBC’s Radio One and are available to stream from the CBC website or via the show’s award-winning podcast. Taping the show this way has given me an acute appreciation for how to play to a live, regional audience while always bearing in mind the radio listener experience.

I have also worked on the writing staff of the show and currently contribute as an Associate Producer. My duties in this role include pitching debate topics and discussing potential casting choices while as a writer I contributed to topical scripts for the host. This experience has given me insight into the unique challenges and benefits of comedy production for public radio that I’ve come to deeply value.

As a fan of "Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me," I believe my enthusiasm for the show along with a decade of experience as a touring standup comedian and my work in comedy production specifically for a public radio audience would make me an asset to the show.

I look forward to showing that in a less humorless way than this letter.

Sincerely,

Katie-Ellen Humphries
